The real irony is there is plenty of fanfiction that goes through more rigorous editing than some published fiction. So the difference in quality between fanfiction and “professional writing” is totally arbitrary and made up. Except that some things that are more expensive are worse.
The big difference is fanfiction is stolen. Its basically plagiarising someone else’s creativity and just adding to it. The characters, stories and ideas arent yours. Sure you might make some fancy lines but the real irony is that everyone remembers “can I tend to the rabbits george” but something as beautiful as the lines above will never have the artistic credit they deserve when it’s from a story of two characters that dont belong together are put in disgusting positions by perverts on the internet.
Spot the person who doesn’t know that “taking characters other people created and doing something new with them” is like 90% of the history of literature. Dumbass.

I googled it once and the only reason why the Great Lakes aren’t called inland seas is because they are entirely freshwater, not salt.
By any other metric they’d be seas. Superior especially (the big one in the upper left) behaves like a small ocean, and has claimed at least 250 ships and over 1000 people. Gordon Lightfoot wrote a frankly chilling song about her that I’ll include here:

just a quick correction: the great lakes ARE referred to and are by definition still inland seas. In texts and lectures taught in Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences, they are in fact labelled as “Freshwater Inland Seas.” They are also referred as such by the government of Canada and other bodies involved in navigation.
Inland seas are labelled by their characteristics of thermal habits, size, and their ability to be affected by the rotation of the earth (which is in direct relation to surface size and volume). Not necessarily on salinity.
This is like finding a stray journal page in a ruined city that talks of some grand festival and the date of the entry is the day before the city was destroyed

Quick PSA, if you get one of those “Work scanned, AI use detected” comments on AO3, just mark them as spam.
Some moron apparently built a bot to annoy or prank hundreds of authors.
There is no scanning process, your work doesn’t actually resemble AI writing, it’s all bullshit. Mark the comment as spam (on AO3, not the email notification you got about the comment!) and don’t let it get to you.
The spam comments have evolved.
They are now also linking to a site they claim is able to scan works and tell you whether they were AI written or not, and that you should do that before reading a fic.
It should go without saying that you should not, under no circumstances, visit a site advertised in a spam comment.
In this case, I’d say there’s even a chance that the “scanning” site is actually used to scrape fics and use them for future AI writing. What it definitely doesn’t do is tell you whether something was AI written or not. That’s a bullshit claim.
Don’t use that site. Don’t believe these spam comments, whether you get them on your own works or see them on someone else’s.
It’s all bullshit.
